SMA Investigator Receives 2006 MacArthur ‘Genius’ Award

MCB is pleased to announce that Kevin Eggan, Assistant Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology is a recipient of this year’s MacArthur “genius” award in recognition of his stellar contribution to stem cell research.

Eggan expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the award:

“Needless to say, I was shocked, surprised, overwhelmed, the whole spectrum of feelings that I suppose one has when something like this occurs. In particular the award has reminded me of the debt of gratitude that I owe to so many of my MCB colleagues for the helpful advice and support they have offered over the last several years, as well as to everyone in the greater MCB community for the warm welcome they have provided to me and all of the members of my lab this year.

Although I am incredibly grateful for myself and for my lab, I am perhaps most excited about the mainstream message of support for stem cell research and somatic cell nuclear transfer that this award from the MacArthur Foundation sends. I hope that this award reinforces the general notion that work with human embryonic stem cells is important and should go forward in the United States.”
